Bertolt Brecht was an important contributor to epic theater. He preferred to call it "dialectable theater" and didn't want it to be ordinary or like any other form of theater .He didn't want everthing to be similar in production he wanted things to be contrary and conflict the minds of the adience.This form of theater was suppose to change society. Brecht is famous for going into exile during World War I and spending the war in America. The horrors of World War I influenced epic theater.

Vsevolod Meyerhold was a Russian and Soviet actor and theater director. He was born in Russia into a German family in 1874. He went to a musical and theater school where he created a new form of theater, Moscow Art theater. His form of theater influenced epic theater because Brecht adopted many of Meyerhold's styles in theater. Both men combined social and political aspects in their form of theater, and captured the audiences imagination and changed their view of things. They were both important contributors to western theater.

Erwin Friedrich Maximilian Piscator was born on December 17, 1893 in the villiage of Greifenstein-Ulm. His father was Carl Piscator, a merchant. His family descended from a Protestant theologian who made a contribution to the translation of the bible in 1600. One him and his family moved to Marburg, Piscator attended the Gymnasium Philippinum. In the year of 1913 he began studying German, philosophy and art history where he enrolled at University of Munich. In 1914, Piscator began acting at the Munich Court Theatre, which consistes of small unpaid roles. He was also drafted into the German army during the First World War, serving front line.
Piscator's contribution to theatre has been described as "the boldest advance made by the German stage" during the 20th century. His theatre techniques of the 1920s influenced European and American production methods. He had sharp political satirical effects and anticipated the commentary techniques of epic theatre.

Benjamin Franklin Wedekind was born on July 24, 1864. He was a German actor and playwright. He lived in Switzerland and then in Munich, where he worked at various jobs, including journalist and cabaret performer. He wrote plays from 1891, when his tragedy The Awakening of Spring created a scandal with its theme of awakening adolescent sexuality. In his Lulu cycle, Earth Split and Pandora's Box, he extended the theme of sex to the underworld of society and introduced the amoral Lulu.
